Vancouver UFO Meetup – About the Group

Inception Story

Founded June 3, 2009, the Vancouver UFO began as an extension of Brian Ruhe’s work teaching adult education classes on UFOs through local school boards and community centres across Greater Vancouver.

Around March 2009, Brian launched the Vancouver UFO Meetup as a way to promote these courses and connect with others who shared an interest in the UFO subject.

The First Meetup

Brian soon realized the opportunity to build something more meaningful — a dedicated UFO community in Vancouver. He organized the first Meetup in his apartment.

Just six days before that first gathering, Brian experienced his own UFO sighting: a small, spherical object approximately two feet in diameter, flying silently at night just a block from his home. He later interpreted this experience as a personal message from extraterrestrial beings, suggesting he was moving in the right direction.

The first meeting was an immediate success, with 13 attendees. 

Growing the Community

Shortly afterward, a member named Jesse offered a larger co‑op meeting room, which became the group’s regular venue for the next five years.

From these early beginnings, the Vancouver UFO Meetup grew into one of the most active and long‑standing UFO communities in British Columbia — continuing today with regular meetups, discussions, and events across Metro Vancouver.

Our group is supported by the volunteer efforts of many dedicated members. We’re especially grateful to Sun, who serves as our web designer and keeps our site organized, readable, and up to date.
